Heating and hot water

The gas-fired central heating is controlled by the Hive Mini thermostat in the bedroom – this connects to the internet via wi-fi so can also be set remotely.

Hive Thermostat Mini user guide

When the property is vacant during colder weather we normally leave the thermostat in Manual mode with temperature set to a continuous 15ºC, keeping the system ticking over. When anyone is staying, we switch it over to Schedule mode the day before arrival. During daytime a slightly over-high temp setting for the main thermostat is used, allowing rooms to heat up to their individual radiator thermostat settings. At night the temperature setting is reduced which effectively turns the heating off overnight.

The central heating boiler is located behind the panel on the wall to right of kitchen sink.

Hot water to the sinks and bath taps is also heated by this boiler. As it is ‘on-demand’ (no storage tank) it takes a few seconds to come through as hot.

Both the showers are electrically powered and heated. Normally to switch on simply press the main power button. If that does not activate the shower they may be turned off at the isolater pullcord switches by the doors.
